Description: Chapter XXXII from the book Flora o la educación de una niña (Pascual de Sanjuán 1881: 266-271), whose impression and lithography were made in the printer of Faustino Paluzie. In it, Flora, the main character, is revising the end of the period of the Reconquista. The legend of Enrique III’s mantle is briefly developed, so it is omitted the pawn of the garment, the feast of the noblemen and the royal call in the fortress, in order to show, directly, the scene of the interrogation, reduced to just one intervention of the monarch. The conclusion that must be deduced has a social nature: “The young king managed by himself so prudently the royal incomes that he did not need to turn to taxes, which are always burdensome for the nation” (Pascual de Sanjuán 1881: 268). Moreover, the chapter succinctly tackles the main facts of the reigns of Juan II and Enrique IV, the conflict of succession at his death, the end of the Reconquista and the discovery of America with the auspice of the Catholic Monarchs. Finally, the inability to reign of their daughter Juana is emphasized.
