Name: Teresa (¿Teresa García?)

Description:

A lady mentioned by name in a poem by Alfonso Álvarez de Villasandino (ID1184, PN1-41), in which the lyrical voice describes a *locus amoenus* populated by ladies who display "decorum / and dance in the French style" (lines 3–4)—figures who, according to the rubric, are the "maidens and ladies who attended the Queen of Navarre." The ladies appear dancing through the woods, "all surrounded by flowers" (lines 9–10), and accompany their dance by singing *discores* (line 13). Among them all, only Teresa is singled out, though we know nothing of her beyond her name.

She may well be Teresa García, a lady-in-waiting to Leonor de Trastámara who is documented in 1376. Based on this detail—among others—the poem may refer to a celebration organized by Charles III of Navarre in Valladolid, on the banks of the Pisuerga River, in 1377 (Brufani 2023: 35–37). This mention constitutes one of the few accounts in the *Cancionero* regarding how the female circle surrounding the queen spent their time; while their presence at courtly festivities and soirées is documented, historical sources remain almost entirely silent on the rest of their activities.
